  • Device: Any internet-connected device such as a phone, tablet, or any other device that can be used to use the HappyNote.App.

  • Service: Refers to the service provided by HappyNote.App via mobile applications, desktop applications and the associated website services.

  • Third-party service: Refers to external service providers that assist us in operating the App and Website, such as data storage, subscription management, and website functionality.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information from you when you use HappyNote.App (the App and the Website) to provide and improve its services, including cloud synchronization, subscription management, and support.

Information You Provide Directly:

  • Email Address: When you use HappyNote.App, we collect your email address for account creation and management through Dexie Cloud (for cloud synchronization) and RevenueCat (for subscription management). If you register on our support forum or contact us directly via email or a website contact form, we will also collect your email address. Your email address is used to identify your account, manage your notes and subscriptions across devices, and to respond to your inquiries.

  • Notes Content (Text and Images): The notes you create, including any text and images you add within the App, are stored on Dexie Cloud servers to enable synchronization across your devices and for backup purposes. While stored on Dexie Cloud, this content remains associated with your account.

  • Forum Content: If you register and post questions, answers, or comments on our support forum, the content you submit will be collected and stored. This content will be publicly visible to other forum users.

  • Payment Information: If you make a purchase (e.g., for a subscription) within HappyNote.App, payment processing is handled by RevenueCat, which integrates with app store platforms (like Google Play). We do not directly collect or store your credit card or other sensitive payment information. This data is collected and processed securely by RevenueCat and the respective app store platform. Please refer to their privacy policies for details on how they handle your payment information.

  • Contact Information: If you choose to contact us directly via email or any website contact form, we will collect your email address and the content of your communication to respond to your inquiry.

Information Collected Automatically (via Third-Party Services):

  • Device and Usage Data (App): We collect general device information such as your device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers (which are not linked to your identity) for app compatibility and to facilitate services provided by Dexie Cloud and RevenueCat. Information about how you use the App and its features, including interactions with Dexie Cloud and RevenueCat’s services, may be collected. This data helps us understand app functionality, identify issues, and manage subscriptions. This data is generally anonymized or aggregated where possible.

  • Website Usage Data (Log Files & Cookies): When you visit our Website (e.g., https://happynote.app or https://happynote.app/qna), our web server automatically collects certain non-personally identifiable information in server log files. This includes your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited on our site, and the date/time of your visit. We also use cookies to ensure the proper functioning of the Website, to manage user sessions (e.g., for logged-in forum users), and for security purposes. You can usually configure your browser to reject cookies, but this may affect the functionality of the Website.

  • Camera and Photo Library Access (App): When you choose to add an image to a note, HappyNote.App requests access to your device’s camera to take a new picture or to your photo library to select an existing image. This access is granted by you through your device’s operating system permissions and uses the system’s photo picker interface. HappyNote.App only accesses the specific images you select and does not have broad access to your entire media library. These images are then integrated into your notes and stored on Dexie Cloud.

  • Anti-Spam/Security Data: If you interact with forms on our Website (like the support forum), we may use anti-spam services (e.g., Akismet, Google reCAPTCHA) which collect certain data (like IP address, user agent, referrer, and site URL) to help determine if a submission is spam.

2. How We Receive Information from Third Parties

  • Dexie Cloud: We receive information from Dexie Cloud related to your account and the synchronization status of your notes.

  • RevenueCat: We receive information from RevenueCat regarding your subscription status, purchases, and anonymized user IDs.

  • Support Inquiries: If you contact us via a third-party support platform or directly via email, we may receive your contact details and communication content to respond to your inquiry.

  • Public Social Media Information: If you choose to interact with HappyNote.App on social media platforms (e.g., commenting on a public post), we may collect publicly available information you have shared on those platforms. You can manage your privacy settings on those platforms to control what information is made public.

3. Sharing Your Information

We share your information only with the necessary third-party service providers to enable the core functionalities of HappyNote.App (note synchronization, subscription management, and website/forum operation). We do not sell your personal information or share it with advertisers, contest sponsors, or marketing partners.

  • Dexie Cloud: Your email address and the content of your notes (text and images) are shared with Dexie Cloud to provide the cloud synchronization and storage features. Dexie Cloud’s handling of your data is governed by their Privacy Policy: https://dexie.org/cloud/privacy

  • RevenueCat: Your email address, subscription status, and anonymized user IDs are shared with RevenueCat to manage your in-app subscriptions and purchases. RevenueCat’s handling of your data is governed by their Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/

  • Website Hosting Provider: Information collected from your Website visits (e.g., IP addresses in server logs, basic site usage) is processed by our website hosting provider to maintain the Website.

  • Anti-Spam Services: Submissions to our support forum or other Website forms may be processed by anti-spam services (such as Akismet, Google reCAPTCHA) to prevent spam and abuse. This involves the collection and analysis of certain user data by these services. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details:

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or government agency).

  • Business Transfers: In the event of a sale or transfer of the HappyNote.App application and its associated assets (including the Website) to a new owner, your information (including your email address and notes content stored on Dexie Cloud, but excluding sensitive payment data which we do not directly handle) may be transferred as part of that transaction, provided the new owner agrees to adhere to the terms of this Privacy Policy and the [Terms of Service]([Link to your Terms of Service]).

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and Maintain the App & Website: To enable you to create, store, and manage your notes, synchronize them across devices via Dexie Cloud, manage your subscriptions via RevenueCat, and to operate and maintain the functionality of our Website and support forum.

  • Enable Core Features: To allow you to attach images from your device’s camera or photo library to your notes and upload them to Dexie Cloud.

  • Process Subscriptions/Purchases: To facilitate and manage your in-app purchases and subscriptions through RevenueCat. For details on our refund policy, please refer to our [Terms of Service]([Link to your Terms of Service]).

  • Improve the App & Website: To understand app and website usage and identify technical issues to continually enhance HappyNote.App’s features and performance. This is done through data provided by Dexie Cloud, RevenueCat, and website analytics, and generally anonymized where possible.

  • Provide Customer Service: To respond to your inquiries and provide support when you contact us through email or the support forum.

  • Prevent Spam and Abuse: To protect our Website and App services from malicious activity.

5. How We Use Your Email Address

  • Forum Content: Content you post on our support forum (questions, answers, comments) is retained for as long as the forum exists or until you request its deletion, subject to legal and moderation requirements.

  • Email Address and Subscription Data: Your email address and subscription-related data are retained by us and by Dexie Cloud/RevenueCat for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter as required for legal compliance or business purposes.

  • Contact Information: If you contact us directly (via email or website form), we retain your email address and communication history for as long as necessary to address your inquiry and for our records.

  • Website Usage Data (Log Files): Server log files containing IP addresses and other technical data are typically retained by our hosting provider for a limited period for security, debugging, and operational purposes (e.g., 7-30 days, depending on your host).

  • Cookies: Cookies are retained for varying periods depending on their purpose (session cookies expire when you close your browser; persistent cookies have an expiry date as set by the cookie).

7. Data Security

We are committed to protecting the security of your information. We rely on the security measures implemented by our trusted third-party service providers, Dexie Cloud and RevenueCat, for the secure storage and processing of your notes, email address, and subscription data. We also implement reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the limited personal information we directly manage (e.g., support emails, website data). While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

10. Children’s Privacy

HappyNote.App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the App or Website after the changes become effective signifies your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

12. Third-Party Services (General)

We may display, include, or make available content or provide links to third-party websites or services (“Third-Party Services”). You acknowledge and agree that HappyNote.App shall not be responsible for any Third-Party Services, including their accuracy, completeness, timeliness, validity, copyright compliance, legality, decency, quality, or any other aspect thereof. HappyNote.App does not assume and shall not have any liability or responsibility to you or any other person or entity for any Third-Party Services. Third-Party Services and links thereto are provided solely as a convenience to you, and you access and use them entirely at your own risk and subject to such third parties’ terms and conditions, as well as our [Terms of Service]([Link to your Terms of Service]).

13. Information about General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

We may be collecting and using information from you if you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), and in this section of our Privacy Policy we are going to explain exactly how and why is this data collected, and how we maintain this data under protection from being replicated or used in the wrong way.

  • What is GDPR? GDPR is an EU-wide privacy and data protection law that regulates how EU residents’ data is protected by companies and enhances the control the EU residents have over their personal data. The GDPR is relevant to any globally operating app and not just EU-based businesses and EU residents. Our users’ data is important irrespective of where they are located, which is why we have implemented GDPR controls as our baseline standard for all our operations worldwide.

  • What is personal data? Any data that relates to an identifiable or identified individual. GDPR covers a broad spectrum of information that could be used on its own, or in combination with other pieces of information, to identify a person. Personal data extends beyond a person’s name or email address. Some examples include IP addresses, and other identifiers that could be used to directly or indirectly identify you.

  • The Data Protection Principles include requirements such as:

    • Personal data collected must be processed in a fair, legal, and transparent way and should only be used in a way that a person would reasonably expect.

    • Personal data should only be collected to fulfill a specific purpose and it should only be used for that purpose. We must specify why we need the personal data when we collect it.

    • Personal data should be held no longer than necessary to fulfill its purpose.

    • People covered by the GDPR have the right to access their own personal data. They can also request a copy of their data, and that their data be updated, deleted, restricted, or moved to another organization.

  • Why is GDPR important? GDPR adds some new requirements regarding how developers should protect individuals’ personal data that they collect and process. It also raises the stakes for compliance by increasing enforcement and imposing greater fines for breach. Beyond these facts, it’s simply the right thing to do. At HappyNote.App, we strongly believe that your data privacy is very important and we already have solid security and privacy practices in place that go beyond the requirements of this new regulation.

  • Individual Data Subject’s Rights – Data Access, Portability and Deletion We are committed to helping our users meet the data subject rights requirements of GDPR. As your notes are stored with Dexie Cloud, you have direct control over their access, modification, and deletion within the App. If you provide us with contact information (e.g., email for support purposes or forum registration), we will facilitate requests for access, update, or deletion of that data as required by GDPR. For more comprehensive details on your rights and our obligations, please refer to our [Terms of Service]([Link to your Terms of Service]).

14. California Residents (CCPA)

If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us. We do not sell the Personal Information of our users.
